The popular 'Place in the Sun' TV show took its team to a city that doesn't always see the sun shining from 02 to 04 October when they held their LIVE exhibition in Birmingham. The show's presenters were there, along with a number of stands from countries around the globe, promoting the dream of living overseas.

In addition to the property developers and estate agents, British Consul Steve Jones from Malaga attended, who had been invited to speak at the European emigration seminars held throughout the 3 days. Steve was able to give a very realistic viewpoint about living in Spain and answer a number of questions from the public about Healthcare, Pensions and other services provided by the Consulate to British nationals living in Spain.

The public who attended the events found the Consul's presentations very helpful, with many of their questions answered. They were also given food for thought on the reality of living overseas and, critically, the message that you can never do enough preparation before making the move. Many were also very impressed that the Consulates have staff from the Department for Work and Pensions, and the Department of Health actually based in both the Alicante and Malaga offices. Those intending to move felt very reassured that different areas of UK Government were working closely together to look after the needs of British residents overseas.
