Minister of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change (jointly with Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs)

Responsibilities

Lord Hunt leads for DECC on:

  • Energy innovation and emerging technologies
  • Heat supply (including locally distributed energy)
  • Coal liabilities including coal health payments
  • Representing DECC in the House of Lords – including passage of the Energy Bill and Climate Change Bill.     

Lord Hunt also works with Defra on issues important to both Departments (Sustainable Consumption and Production, adaptation, waste, air quality).

Biography

Lord Hunt is Minister of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change (jointly with Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs); and Deputy Leader of the House of Lords.

He previously served as a minister in the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department of Health and was appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Justice on 29 June 2007.

He was raised to the peerage as Baron Hunt of Kings Heath, of Birmingham in the County of West Midlands 1997.

He was educated at Leeds University.
