Your guide to a new Student visa

On March 31, major changes to the Immigration Rules were introduced. If you intend to study for a short period (e.g. a 3-week English course over the summer), please  bear in mind the following:

  • if you are over 18 and intend to study in the UK for less than 6 months, we recommend that you apply for a Student visit visa. Please apply using the online form inserting "Visit" as purpose of application and using application type "General Student visitor, up to 6 months"
  • if you are under 18 and intend to study in the UK for less than 6 months, we recommend that you apply for a Child visit visa. Please apply using the online form inserting "Visit" as purpose of application and using application type "Special, Child visitor"
  • if you intend to study long term in the UK, please see the published Tier 4 Student guidance available on the UKBA website.
