If child's parents are not married
If the parents of the child are not married and it is the father who is applying on behalf of the child, the mother must provide her written consent to the issue of the passport. This is policy both in the UK and abroad. We suggest that the mother provide a photocopy of her passport or photographic ID, including the following text: “I, ----------------, as mother of the minor -----------, give my consent to the issue of a UK passport to him/her”. This should then be signed and dated and included with the application.Birth certificates
- for applicants in Spain, birth certificates should be certificado literal issued by the Registro Civil
- for applicants in Portugal, birth certificates must be accompanied by the declaração from the hospital which states exactly where the child was born.
For further information on the kinds of birth certificates that are acceptable, and how to obtain replacements, see our page on birth certificates. We will return all documents submitted in support of your application.
