Visa Electron debit cards issued by Portuguese banks can only be used with “chip and pin” for over-the-counter transactions within Portugal. Currently, Portuguese Banks do not offer the facility for Visa Electron debit cards to be used for postal or telephone payments. Therefore, customers in Portugal need to pay for their postal applications by Visa or Mastercard credit cards.
