Application form

Use the pink C2 form which must be signed by the child (if 12 years of age or over). In all cases the form must be signed in section 7 by a parent or guardian.

Documents to submit

• if the application is to renew an existing passport, you need to send the previous/current passport, the completed C2 form, the credit card payment form and photographs

• for first-time applications, please see our section which explains the documents you need to present.

Please note that we do not accept the Libro de Familia in lieu of a birth certificate. Applicants must obtain the birth certificate from the Registro Civil.

If child's parents are not married

If the parents of the child are not married and it is the father who is applying on behalf of the child, the mother must provide her written consent to the issue of the passport.  This is policy both in the UK and abroad.  We suggest that the mother provide a photocopy of her passport or photographic ID, including the following text: “I, ----------------, as mother of the minor -----------, give my consent to the issue of a UK passport to him/her”.  This should then be signed and dated and included with the application.

Registering a birth

It is not obligatory to register the birth of your child, however we do recommend that you take advantage of this service so that a record of the birth will exist in the United Kingdom. If your child was born in Spain, you can register the birth at the British Consulate-General in Madrid. If your child was born in Portugal, you can register the birth at the consular section of the British Embassy in Lisbon. This is especially relevant if you intend to live in the UK in the future.
