How to legalise documents

British Consulates in Spain can forward most British public documents to London which need the Apostille

The Hague Apostille

Public documents issued in the UK which need to be legalised for use in Spain are covered by the 1961 Hague Convention which abolished the requirement for legalisation of public documents and to which Spain became a signatory in 1978.

British Consulates in Spain can forward to London most British public documents which need the Apostille. A fee is payable for this service - see our Consular fees table.

Alternatively, documents can be sent directly to the Legalisation Office:

Norfolk House (West)
437 Silbury Boulevard
Milton Keynes
MK9 2AH

Tel: +44 (0) 1908 295 111
Fax: +44 (0) 1908 295 122

Email: legalisationoffice@fco.gov.uk

Please ensure that registered post is used to and from the UK. Educational documents no longer need to have the Apostille affixed, but please check with the relevant authority.
